FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

WHAT MAKES YOUR SHEDS BETTER THAN YOUR COMPETITION?

Our approach is focused on what you are looking for in a shed. We start with attentive customer service from the initial planning stages through the construction and completion of your finished shed. Whether you are looking for a basic storage shed or something more, our experienced carpenters stick build a high quality shed to your specifications. Your plywood flooring, 4×4 runners, and floor joists (12” on center) are all pressure treated. Wall and roof framing is 2×4 or in some cases 2×6. Trim is long lasting rot free White PVC. A variety of wall siding and roof shingle options are available to help in complying with HOA requirements.

DO YOU BUILD ON SITE?

Yes. Our sheds are constructed by hand on site, often referred to as stick built. Some of the shed components are precut and assembled into a kit at our shop in Stafford. A carpenter brings your kit to your site and constructs your shed. By building on site we avoid some of the issues presented by fences, trees, and low clearance areas. We generally need at least 2’ of clearance around the shed to construct.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET A SHED?

In most cases our installation dates are 3-4 weeks from date of contract. This may vary seasonally and sometimes we can build within 2-3 weeks depending on the size and scope of your project. A typical shed will take 1-2 days to construct.

DO I NEED A PERMIT FOR A SHED?

Permits can vary depending on your County or Locality. There is a difference between building permits and zoning permits. Most counties do not require a building permit for sheds 200 square feet or less. Residential zoning permits usually specify the distance your shed must be from your property lines and sometimes contain easements. Many counties and localities require a zoning permit regardless of the size of your shed. We will assist you in understanding the permit requirements for your specific area. In addition to zoning and building permits many areas have Home Owner Associations requiring the shed to meet certain guidelines.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR PURCHASING A SHED?

The first step is to give some thought to what you will use the shed for and the size, style, and options you’d like included on your shed. From there you can call or e mail us and set up a convenient time to meet at your site for a free consultation to review details such as shed location, options, materials, and colors. An estimate is then prepared based on your specifications. After acceptance of the estimate an installation date is reserved. A 50% deposit is normally requested to reserve a date for the carpenter to install your shed. Installation dates are generally 3-4 weeks from date of contract and most shed installations take 1-2 days.

WHAT SITE PREPARATION IS NEEDED- DO I NEED A CONCRETE OR GRAVEL PAD?

As a general rule little if any site preparation is necessary. We usually construct our sheds on the existing ground and level pressure treated 4×4 runners as necessary with cinderblock and pressure treated shims. The less the soil underneath your shed is disturbed, the less chance of your shed settling over time. There are some instances when site preparation, gravel, or even a concrete pad may be appropriate. Specific site related questions are usually addressed during our site visit.

CAN YOU TEAR DOWN AND REMOVE MY EXISTING SHED?

Yes. When we come to your home for a site visit we can give you a price on tearing down and removing your existing shed.

DO YOU HAVE A DISPLAY LOT WHERE I CAN SEE EXAMPLES OF YOUR SHEDS?

Yes. We are located at 3209 Jefferson Davis Highway in North Stafford VA near Aquia Harbour and have a display lot with examples of different shed sizes and styles. The display sheds are always open for your convenience, including Sunday’s when our office is normally closed. Our office hours of operation are 10-5 Monday through Friday and 10-3 on Saturday, or by appointment.

DO YOU PAINT WOODEN SHEDS?

The wooden sheds come with LP Smart Siding factory primed wall and door panels – a durable engineered wood with a light tan color primer and Smart Guard coating to protect against termite damage and fungal decay. Information about LP Smart Siding is available at lpcorp/smartside/panel.   Painting of the LP Smart Siding is an option we can include in your estimate. The cost of painting depends on the type of paint and the size of the shed. The PVC roof, corner, and door trim do not require painting and remain white.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A RANCH AND GABLE?

The major difference between a Ranch and a Gable is the orientation of the front of the shed. A Ranch typically has the wide side as the natural front with the door and the roofing sloping down toward the front. The Ranch also has a one foot overhang on the front. The Gable has an A frame roof and usually has the narrow side with the door on the front with the roof sloping down from side to side. A 10’x16’ Gable would have a 10’ width across the front and 16’ depth and a Ranch would have a 16’ width across the front with a 10’ depth.

WHAT IS THE WARRANTY ON YOUR SHEDS?

The overall warranty for all materials and labor on your shed is 5 years. Some of the building materials such as shingles, siding, and PVC trim have lengthier individual warranties. All warranties are included in the base cost of your shed.

DO YOU PROVIDE ELECTRICITY FOR YOUR SHEDS?

We are not licensed to run electricity to your shed. A licensed electrician would be your best source.

DO YOU MOVE SHEDS?

We are unable to move sheds on a trailer. In some instances we may be able to assist in re positioning your shed.
